How to Make Quark Yourself

Quark is not that easy to come by in the USA. There are a few companies making it and we list them under the resources. They are usually only sold locally or per mail order (expensive shipping due to needed ice pack).

So why not make your own. All you need is our machine and buttermilk. There is also the cost factor. Store bought Quark costs anywhere from $6.00 to $12.00 per pound. One quart of buttermilk costs around $1.80 and produces about one pound of Quark. Half a gallon of buttermilk costs around $3.00 and produces about 2 pounds of Quark. Energy cost is low since the Quark maker uses only 18W/hour. There is almost no work involved. Here are our instructions in a nutshell. The machine comes with more detailed instructions and recipes.

  • Fill buttermilk into machine.
  • Let it run for the given time.
  • Timer will turn machine off automatically.
  • Line a colander with the flour sack that comes with the machine.
  • Drain it for the given time.
  • Refrigerate.
  • Done!

Yogurt can be made in the Quark Maker as well. Instructions and recipes are included.
