FAQ: Using the Quark Maker Questions

floursacktowelsI need a replacement flour sack towel. You send 2 commercial grade lint free flour sack towels with the machine. I can’t find the same quality in the store. Do you sell them individually?

quarkinjarsHow do I know if the buttermilk turned into Quark?

You will see a clear separation in the jar. Whey will be on the button and Quark on top. At this point the Quark still contains to much water, so you will need to drain it in the flour sack towel. The picture shows the Quark after it has completed its cycle in the machine. We used 1/2 gallon of buttermilk in three one quart mason jars. Note: The jars show different whey levels, because the buttermilk had not been mixed up before pouring into the jars.

How much Quark can I get out of buttermilk?

This depends on the quality of the buttermilk and you may experience differences between various brands. In general half of the buttermilk’s water needs to go.

  • 1 quart buttermilk (1 liter) = 2 cups of Quark or 500g
  • 2 quarts buttermilk (1/2 gallon or 2 liters) = 4 cups of Quark or 1000g
  • 3 quarts buttermilk (3 liters) = 6 cups of Quark or 1500g
